At Thornbury Primary School we have accepted a broad definition of equal opportunities:
"it is our school's policies and practices which provide equal access and rights to all adults and pupils within the school. We seek to remove discrimination against people on the basis of gender, race, class, sexual orientation, learning difficulties, sensory or physical impairment."
It is the following list of beliefs that are at the heart of our equal opportunities policy:
it is everyone's right to be regarded as being of equal worth and importance
it is everyone's right to have the opportunity to fulfil their potential
it is everyone's right to have an equal chance and to be valued and respected for who they are
it is everyone's right to equal access to all aspects of school life
it is everyone's right to be free from discrimination as defined above.
All the equal opportunities listed above are relevant to pupils BUT they are also entitled to a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum AND positive support, monitoring and recording of their progress and an Annual Report to their parents.
