Children begin their school life in the reception class at the age of four.
The Foundation Stage is planned to meet the individual needs of all children who come and join us at Thornbury Primary School. We acknowledge that children will have already learnt a lot by the time they start school.
We try to provide a wide range of learning experiences to enable the children to make progress in a variety of areas. Children learn in many different ways: through playing, talking, experimenting, observing, creating, practising and working with adults and their peers. We believe that high quality well planned play activities will help our children to learn enthusiastically in a challenging, happy and structured learning environment. Come and see us and find out!
Our curriculum is organised into six areas:
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Communication, Language and Literacy
Mathematical Development
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Physical Development
Creative Development
Many of these areas overlap and it is our intention to provide opportunities for our children to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding across several areas.
Above all, we believe that parental partnership is of paramount importance in helping children to learn effectively. Regular support in sharing and reading books and playing games at home will help your child's journey in learning fun. We are always happy to suggest ways in which you can support your child at home.
We have started school!
Do you recognise us?
We painted ourselves in our Thornbury School uniform. We think that we look great!

I like painting.

I have been learning how to dress the teddy bear on the computer. I have to click the mouse to make the point move and then I have to click it again to make the clothes stay on the teddy.

I used lego to make a house for Daddy Bear. I had to make some furniture to fit in the house too. Some of the furniture was too big! I had to try again to sort it out.
