Logo: Circle Time

Circle Time is a time tabled activity for each class.  It is here that planned  ‘fun’activities take place which allow the children to feel secure and comfortable. The circle is formed and rules are strictly adhered to: no interrupting, laughing at  people or what they say and generally a a feeling of trust and confidentiality is created.  Issues are explored- feelings, conflicts and current events.  The children are sensitively encouraged to share but the golden rule is about listening to others.  It is also a forum for feedback and generating issues for the school council.

Responsibilities are started at Key Stage One where children are encouraged to take small roles in the classroom.  These increase as the children get older and at Year 6 are wide and varied.  This is about empowering children and understanding that each of us is responsible for our day to day lives and how we conduct ourselves is important.

Logo: Whizz Kids

Whizz Kids. This is a Key Stage 1 vehicle for celebrating many things.  Birthdays, being a friend, caring and doing a good job.  Children are selected on a weekly basis for recognition.  A Whizz Kid badge is achieved after a collection of stickers by individual children has been earned.

Awards are given through Head Teacher regularly presented at assembly. We also have department awards such as a ‘Reach for the Stars’ in Year 5 and 6 as well as a ‘Pat on the Back’ at Years 3 and 4.  Whizz Kids is the Infants system. The Governors hold an annual assembly  to award The Endeavour Shield, A Caring Cup and an Arts Award to Year 6 pupils who have been the most consistent in these areas over their time in school.

Logo: School Council

The School Council is elected from children in Year 2,3,4,5 and 6. A boy and a girl represent the views of their year group at a twice a term meeting. They produce their own newsletter and report for the governor’s curriculum committee.  Staff are invited to attend these meetings and a governor is represented as well.

Children in Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 are trained as peer mediators.  They are given a place on a rota to be available to discuss minor disputes and to act as ‘Buddies’ for children who need someone to play with. They also teach playground games.

They can be identified by their yellow base ball caps.

Logo: Moments that Matter

Each class has a Moments That Matter book where events, happy or sad, dreams and thoughts are recorded. Staff scribe for the children or a child can put in a special moment whenever they wish to.

Year 6 children are chosen for house and vice house captain through an election following a parliamentary style campaign in the Autumn Term.  The houses – Tamar, Tavy, Dart and Plym are vehicles for house events such as quizzes, assemblies and sports day.  Accumulated house points in Years 3 and 4 result in Bronze, Silver, Gold, Super Gold and Platinum awards.  In Years 5 and 6 the points accumulate towards a  letter of Merit from the class teacher, Head of Department and Head teacher.

We believe that all our children are special and unique.  Each of us who work in our school contributes to its special atmosphere of care and co - operation – adults and children are all responsible for this ethos.  We are a pro - manners environment and if you ever visit us you should find well -mannered individuals who care for their school.  We all have something to give to our community and to that end we embrace a culture that demands the highest quality behaviour and work.  We celebrate that in the many ways, some of them shown on this page.  Finally, we also believe that laughter is the glue that binds it all together – so listen for the chuckles as you pass by our school.
