It is the practice at Thornbury Primary School to hold an Act of Worship every day.
- On Monday there is a whole school act of Collective Worship.
- On Friday the whole school gathers together and classes take it in turn to present an Assembly to parents of that class as well as the school.
- On the first Friday of each month there is usually a visiting speaker or minister.
- On the other three days the Junior and Infants meet separately.
Collective Worship is mainly of a Christian nature as laid down by the 1988 Education Act and includes a short period of reflection.
Opportunities are taken during the year to make children aware that there are other Beliefs and Values and we all have to live in a world where we learn to appreciate and tolerate each other’s differences.
Children can be withdrawn from Collective Worship by their parents for various reasons after discussion with the Head. If this amounts to a large number of children parents would be asked to supervise them during Assembly time.
Children of non-Christian beliefs may not only be withdrawn from Collective Worship but also from Religious Education lessons for instruction by their parents in their own beliefs.
